So how did the first "Turn on the Galaxy" collaboration happen? It went like this; Rita was in his last months of college, Al was in for a visit. They both went to the store and purchased a bottle of Seagram's Seven, got back to the apartment and recorded 8 "songs" by the end of the night. Recorded on a Yamaha Mini-Disc 8-track recorder, they would start with an improve track of bass and drums....layer a synth or two....and finally improv some singing, talking, or whatever you would like to call it. You can still here the laughing throughout each track. They never had more fun recording an album, this started it all.
